Prof. dr hab. Wojciech Knap obtained his master and PhD degrees from Faculty of Physics – University of Warsaw Poland. His PhD concerned the Terahertz (Far infrared) properties of narrow gap semiconductors HgTe and InSb. After his PhD degree (1985) he obtained the position of permanent assistant professor at the University of Warsaw in the Department of Solid State Physics. In 1987 he moved to France to work as the assistant professor at the University of Montpellier, Grenoble High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Toulouse Pulsed High Magnetic Field Laboratory. In 1992 he obtained a permanent position at French National Centre for Scientific Research – CNRS – Montpellier. He worked as a visiting researcher at joined USA–Japan Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY and Tohoku University Sendai Japan.
Since 25th February 2020 he has become the professor of Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences;

MSc Katrzyna Kolys was working in the international and interdisciplinary environment for over 14 years. In September 2018 she joined the Management Board of CENTERA project. Studies and work in Poland and abroad gave her the opportunities to learn different skills including: project management, scientific project promotion and PR. She is the awarded expert of science marketing and communication. She was the leader of various events in Poland and abroad. Organized big international conference (Symposium on Fusion Technology for 750 people from all over the world) and helped to launch the EU call for papers. She gained valuable experience in start-up environment and Business Development.
MSc Anna Krynska received master’s degree from the Faculty of Management, Bialystok University of Technology. In the years 2008 – 2019 she worked at the Bialystok University of Technology, leading, among others: doctoral studies, Erasmus program. She also dealt with the administrative service of the Foreign Language Center PB. She completed post-graduate studies in European Union Project Management.
MSc Bożena Stoczko is a graduate of administration at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bialystok. In the MAB CENTERA project, she uses many years of professional experience, which she gained at the Białystok deanship for efficient organization of the work of the Directorate and researchers. Both at the Białystok University of Technology and in her current job she is valued for her competence and friendly approach to all employees. She held various administrative training, among others on communication and technology transfer and intellectual property.
PhD Lech Trzeciak has a strong biomedical background, having graduated from Warsaw University of Medicine as a medical doctor and working in the profession for several years and simultaneously doing research in biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics. Visited St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 1991, University of Washington in 1994-1995 as Fulbright Scholar and Institute of Virology in Koln 2014. Obtained PhD (in genetics of cancer) in 1999. Completed postgraduate studies in biostatistics at Medical University of Łódź in 2014. Co-authored 21 papers in peer-review journals, h=12. Worked also in the field of dissemination and popularization as an editor of medical textbooks and an editor, author and translator for Polish edition of “Scientific American”. Recently turned to research management, specializing in European-funded multinational projects and applications.
Researchers and Young post docs
Prof. IHPP PAS Alvydas Lisauskas received the Diploma in physics from Vilnius University in 1995, and the PhD degree from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm in 2001. In 2002, he joined the Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Terahertz Physics Group at the Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany, working on novel semiconductor devices for THz applications.
From 2014, he is a professor and leading researcher at Vilnius University. From 2014 till 2016 he was a head of joint research laboratory on electrical fluctuations established between the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology and Vilnius University. Since February 2019, he joined CENTERA Project of the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS, where he is leading a workgroup on THz electronics.
Prof. IHPP PAS Dmitri V. Lioubtchenko was born in 1971 in Russia. He received BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in applied physics and mathematics from the Department of Physical and Quantum Electronics, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1993, 1994, and 1998, respectively.
From 1994 to 1997, he was a researcher in the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics, Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. From 1997 to 1998 he was a visiting researcher at The University of Liverpool in U.K. In 1998, he joined the Radio Laboratory of Helsinki University of Technology, now Aalto University, Finland, where he was a Docent from 2005 and from 2008 till 2013 he was Finnish Academy Research Fellow. In 2017 received a Docentship at the Department of Micro and Nano Science, KTH, Sweden.
Prof. dr hab. eng. Thomas Skotnicki was working for France Telecom from 1985 till 1999 when he joined STMicroelectronics. He became the first STMicroelectronics Company Fellow and Technical Vice-President. He invented the UTBB FDSOI structure (in production at STMicroelectronics, GF and Samsung). Today he is the Co-Leader of the CENTERA project (International Research Agenda funded by Foundation for Polish Science) and Professor at the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS, His PhD concerned the Terahertz (far-infrared), as well as in Warsaw University of Technology, Poland.
Prof. IHPP PAS Sergey Ganichev received the Master of Science degree and the PhD degree from the Leningrad Politechnical Institute, Russia in 1980 and 1984, respectively. In 1997 he obtained the Dr. hab. degree from the A.F. Ioffe Physico-technical Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia and in 2002 from the University of Regensburg, Germany. He has been working from 1980 till 2005 at the A.F. Ioffe Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia; from 1992 till 1994 at Munich Technical University as an Alexander von Humbold Fellow. Since 1992 he is working at the Institute for Experimental und Applied Physics at the University of Regensburg, Germany. His research interests are nonequilibrium and nonlinear phenomena in semiconductors at excitation by intense terahertz electric fields of high power far-infrared lasers, tunneling and photoelectrical phenomena in semiconductors and semiconductor structures, electron gas heating by radiation, detectors for infrared radiation, molecular gas lasers and terahertz spectroscopy.
Prof. IHPP PAS Valentin Kachorovskii was born in Leningrad, Russia, in 1962. He received the Ph.D. degree in semiconductor physics from the A.F Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1989. He is currently a Senior Researcher in the Department of the Theory of Electrical and Optical Phenomena in Semiconductors, the A.F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute.
He has authored or co-authored over 120 scientific articles published in refereed journals and conference proceedings. His current research interests include transport in disordered systems, spin-dependent phenomena in low-dimensional structures, dynamics of plasma waves, and terahertz electronics.
Prof. dr hab. Valeri Mikhnev graduated from Belarusian State University, Faculty of Radio Physics in 1979. He received Candidate of Science (PhD) degree in 1986 and D.Sc. degree in 2003 from the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In 1979-2011, he was researcher, then Head of the Laboratory of Microwave Methods for Nondestructive Testing in the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Minsk. In 2011-2013, Dr. V. Mikhnev worked as a researcher at Aalto University in Finland where he studied advanced methods of microwave imaging, subsurface radar signal processing and ultra-wideband microwave antennas.
Prof. IHPP PAS Sergey L. Rumyantsev received the M.S.E.E. degree from Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute in Petersburg in 1977, the PhD degree in physics from the Leningrad Polytechnical Institute in 1986, and Mathematics in 1986, and the D.Sc. (Habilitation) degree in electronics from the A.F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology, Leningrad, in 1996.
From 1977 to 1980, he was working in the A.F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute. From 1977 to 1989, he was working with Industrial and Scientific Corporation “Svetlana.” From 1989 to 2018, he is a Research Fellow of the A.F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute. From 1999 to 2018 he was a prof. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. From 2018 he is a professor of Institute of High Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Yevhen Yashchyshyn (M’96–SM’09) received the M.Sc. degree from Lviv University of Technology, Ukraine, in 1979, and the PhD degree from Moscow State Institute of Electronics and Mathematics in Moscow in 1986, and the D.Sc. (Habilitation) degree in electronics from Warsaw University of Technology in 2006. Since 1999, he has been working in the Institute of Radioelectronics and Multimedia Technology (IRTM) at the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). In 2002, he became the Head of the Antenna Laboratory, and since 2009 he has become the Head of the Radiocommunication Division, IRTM, WUT.
He has authored more than 100 technical papers, authored/coauthored three books and received eleven patents. His research interests include antenna theory and techniques, smart beamforming, reconfigurable antennas, radio over fiber techniques, material characterization including ferroelectric ceramic-polymers composites investigation up to subterahertz frequency.
Prof. Sergey N. Vainshtein: MS with honor (phys. electronics) from the Leningrad Politechnical Institute, Russia in 1978. 1978-1981 in industry: R&D in PUL corporation, Saratov; then in Lepse corporation, Leningrad (light-emitting vacuum devices; engineer/leading engineer). From 1981 with the A. F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute in Petersburg, Russia; 1987 PhD in semiconductor device physics. From 1992 senior scientist in Ioffe Institute and visiting researcher in Electron Lab. of Univ. of Oulu in Finland. In 2020 won the position of research professor in VTT in Oulu, Finland; later twice was selected to short list of Professor Positions in Finland. In 2007 got tenure track post senior university researcher in Univ. of Oulu where continued research till 2020. In Jan. 2020 joined CENTERA, Warsaw, Poland.
Maciej Haras, PhD Eng., was born in Gdańsk, Poland in 1984. He obtained M. Eng in power electronics at Gdańsk University of Technology and at Polytechnique de Grenoble (2008), PhD in nanotechnology at Université Lille-1 (2016) for investigation of silicon-based thermoelectric generators, awarded with the best PhD prize from Université Catholique de Lille.
Joined STMicroelectronics R&D (2011) working on energy harvesting. In 2014 he joined IEMN and investigated CMOS compatible thermoelectric generators and mechanical properties of silicon nanowire . Currently he is the assistant professor at Institute of High Pressure Physics (UNIPRESS), Polish Academy of Sciences and at Warsaw University of Technology.
Aleksandra Krajewska, PhD, obtained the title of Master of Science in Chemistry at the Military University of Technology (WAT) in 2012. In 2019 earned Doctor’s degree with highest distinctions at the same University for the thesis entitled “Modification of graphene structure for photonic and electronic applications”. After obtaining Mater of Science degree she enrolled at ITME as an engineer, later to become Engineer Specialist. As a researcher at ITME and PhD student at WAT she was involved in electrical and materials characterization as well as in the development of a method for graphene transfer from metals to arbitrary substrates and chemical modification of graphene properties. In 2019 she moved to the Center for Terahertz Research and Applications CENTERA in Warsaw. Her scientist interests is closely related to carbon-based materials, i.e. graphene and nanotube, and their possible applications in electronic system as well as in other related applications.
Kamil Stelmaszczyk, PhD, graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, where he received his doctorate in physics in 2003. In 2004-2005, he received a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Free University of Berlin in the group of Prof. Dr. Drs. h.c. Ludger Wöste, where he conducted his research on saturable optical spatial solitons in gases, in particular on the effect of supercontinuum generation, obtaining a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in 2012. He worked in leading scientific institutions in Germany, e. g., Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Free University of Berlin, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf or Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin. Since 2019 he has been associated with the Center for Terahertz Research and Application CENTERA in Warsaw.
PhD Piotr A. Dróżdż was born in 1990 in Poland. He graduated with PhD diploma from University of Warsaw in 2019. At the same year, he joined WG4 group of prof. Dmitry Liobchenko at CENTERA. Experience in physics and fabrication of semiconductor nanostructures based on gallium nitride as well as will to explore the borderland between science and technology, resulted in present scientific interests of dr Dróżdż which are concentrated on applying III – nitride technology to fabricate active elements for THz applications.
PhD eng. Cezary Kolacinski studied at Warsaw University of Technology and obtained MSc degree in 2013. After graduation, he joined Institute of Electron Technology as IC Design Engineer. Simultaneously, he started PhD study in the field of low-noise THz readout circuits. This study ended in 2017 with successful defense of the doctoral dissertation entitled “Multichannel, Integrated Readout Systems for FET-based THz Detectors Working with Unmodulated THz Beam”. In the beginning of 2020 Cezary joined NL-11 Lab in IHPP PAS and CENTERA team. Currently he is working on exploration of high-frequency limits of Field Effect Transistors and Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors.
PhD Dmytro B. But received the Diploma in microelectronics engineering from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute NTUU, in Ukraine, in 2009 and received his PhD degree in Physics from the Laboratoire Charles Coulomb, the University of Montpellier II in 2014. In the period between the end of 2014 and 2015, he also worked as an engineer in the Department of Physics and Technology of Low-dimensional Systems at the V.E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics NAS of Ukraine. Since 2015 he has continued work as an associate researcher in the group of terahertz spectroscopy at the University of Montpellier. Since 2017, he has been working at the Institute of Electrodynamics, Microwave and Circuit Engineering at the Technical University of Wien as a university assistant. Since 2018, he joined a research group at the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. From 2019, he joined CENTERA Project at the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS. His research interests include condition matter physics, terahertz electronics, systems and semiconductor devices for them.
Jacek Przybytek obtained PhD from the University of Warsaw in experimental solid state physics. Expertise in electronic properties of materials and electronic devices under extreme conditions of cryogenic temperature, high hydrostatic pressure and high magnetic field. He carried out fundamental as well as applied research – among others optical end electronic properties of deep defects, noise optimization of Hall effect GaAlAs/GaAs-based magnetic sensors at the industrial level (Marie Curie Industrial Host Fellowship in Montrouge Technology Center of Schlumberger: 2000-2002). Special interest in fluctuation phenomena in solids and solid state devices in relationship to fundamental scattering, generation-recombination and relaxation processes in solids (e.g. origins of electronic noise in resonant tunneling diods and electronic transport and noise in manganites).
PhD Elham Javadi received BSc and MSc degrees from Urmia University and Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2008 and 2010, respectively, and the PhD degree from the University of Tehran in 2018, all in electrical engineering.
During her PhD, she was visiting student in terahertz labratories of Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main in Germany and Salamanca University, Salamanca in Spain.
Currently she is an assistant in the Team project of the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her current research interests include THz electronics, design and modeling of semiconductor devices, and THz imaging techniques.
PhD Maciej Sakowicz received the MSc degree in physics in 2004, and the PhD degree in solid state physics in 2008 from the University of Warsaw. After graduation he spend one year in the group of Prof. W. Knap in Montpellier, France working as a Postdoctoral Researcher on THz detection by field effect transistors. For the period of 2009-2012, he joined the group of Prof. C. Silva at Universite de Montreal, Montreal in Canada as a Postdoctoral Researcher working on ultrafast spectroscopy of organic solar cells.
MSc Aleksander Cherniadev was born in Kirov in Russia and studied at Vyatka Humanitarian Gymnasium with Advanced Education in English language.

MSc Dmitriy Yavorskiy is a fifth-year PhD student at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw. He does research studies in THz Lab Group led by professor Jerzy Lusakowski, who is also supervising his PhD thesis. All previous and current work is mostly related to the physical phenomenons of THz detectors and emitters such as a magnetoplasma excitation in a 2DEG, cyclotron transitions, Gunn effect or Smith-Purcell effect. He has built many experimental setups to study detection and emission of semiconductor structures and devices from silicon, GaAs, GaN and CdTe bulk materials and 2D systems. He has vast experience in a wide range of various measurements techniques, like Terahertz Magnetospectroscopy, Terahertz Photoconductivity, Terahertz emission and Transport measurements at cryogenic or room temperatures and high magnetic fields.
MSc eng. Maksym Dub was born on 19.02.1994 in Ukraine. He completed the full course of Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University and obtained qualification of Bachelor of Physics. Title of his thesis was “Investigation of ohmic contacts to diamonds”. He completed the full course of Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University, completed higher education in the field of Physics, obtained qualification of Physicist, teacher of Physics, Astronomy and Computer Studies. During 2014-2016 completed Master studies in the field of physics at Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University. Since 2016 has been a research assistant in field of solid state physics at V.E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2019 he has been a PhD student at the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS, associated with DAINA project.
MSc eng. Ivan Yahniuk received his master degree in Semiconductor Physics from Faculty of Electronics in Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 2013. He is currently working аs a researcher in Terahertz Laboratory (TeraGaN) NL-11 at the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and in the Laboratory of Cryogenic and Spintronic Research (SL2) at the Institute of Physics, Warsaw, Poland.
His main scientific interests are: physics of semiconductor devices, computer hardware, high pressure, topological materials.
MSc Aleksandra Przewłoka was born in Puławy in Poland, in 1993. She received the M.Sc. degree in biology from the University of Lodz, Poland in 2019, the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemistry from Military University of Technology, Warsaw in 2017. She is currently working toward the PhD degree at Military University of Technology. She worked at the Lukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Electronic Materials Technology in Warsaw from 2013 to 2019. Since October 2019 she has been associated with the Center for Terahertz Research and Applications CENTERA in Warsaw.
Her current research interests are focused on investigation of properties of carbon-based nanomaterials (especially graphene and carbon nanotubes) and their chemical modification to improve their optoelectronic properties.
MSc Pavlo Sai obtained master degree in Physics from Faculty of Physics and mathematics at Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University in 2015. He has three years’ experience as engineer in laboratory of physical and technological problems of solid-state microwave electronics at V.E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics NAS of Ukraine. Currently he is a PhD student in THz laboratory at Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2018, he joined CENTERA Project as an assistant.
His main scientific interests are: GaN-based plasmonic devices for terahertz spectral range application; Grating metamaterials for amplification and generation of terahertz radiation; AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors with Graphene integration; ohmic and barrier contact to III-Nitride group of semiconductor materials.
MSc Adil Rehman

MSc Maria Szoła is a PhD student at the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Her research is focused on THz magnetospectroscopy and magnetotransport measurements under hydrostatic pressure. She obtained Master of Science degree with distinction from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, under supervision of prof. J. Łusakowski. Her research project involved optically stimulated luminescence of boron nitride as a dosimetric method of X-rays. Previously she worked at the Laboratory of THz Spectroscopy led by prof. J. Łusakowski, where her research involved luminescence of modulation doped 2D structures at cryogenic temperatures & high magnetic fields with THz excitation (2017-2019).
MSc eng. Maciej Filipiak obtained master degree in Photonics form Faculty of Mechatronics at Warsaw University of Technology in 2018. Has a 9 month practice in cleanroom laboratory as Litho Team at IMEC Belgium. He is currently an employee of the Center for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT as well as of the THz Laboratory at Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His main responsibilities are photolithography and resist chemistry processes.
MSc Yurii Ivonyak obtained master degree in Physics from Faculty of Physics semiconductors at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in 2005. Three years’ experience as engineer in laboratory of Physics of surfaces and semiconductor nanophotonics at V.E. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics NAS of Ukraine. Since 2008 he is a PhD student in THz Laboratory at Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
PhD Ewelina Karpierz has graduated from Chemical Technology at Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology as well as from Nanostructure Engineering, interdyscyplinary studies at Faculty of Physics and Faculty of Chemistry of University of Warsaw. She has got a PhD diploma at Warsaw University of Technology in 2019. At the same year, she joined CENTERA group as a chemist. She deals with research on systems based on two-dimensional crystalline heterostructures.
MSc eng. Mateusz Słowikowski obtained M.Sc. in Engineering in field of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology. After these studies he spent 10 months on an internship in IMEC (Belgium). He is currently a PhD student in Electronics at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology (WUT) in field of photonics integrated circuits. In CEZAMAT and CENTERA Project he is an engineer responsible for electron beam lithography processes.
MSc eng. Bartłomiej Stonio obtained master degree in Electronic form Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at Warsaw University of Technology in 2018. Has a 6 months practice in cleanroom laboratory as Cleaning, Polishing Etching Team at IMEC Belgium. He is currently a PhD student in Electronics at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology (WUT) in field of 2D materials. In CEZAMAT and CENTERA he is an engineer responsible for high temperature processes and layers depositions.
MSc eng. Piotr Wiśniewski received the BSc degree and the MSc eng. degree from the Warsaw University of Technology, where he is currently pursuing the PhD degree. In 2013 he had a 6 month internship at IMEC Belgium where he was working on plasma processing of advanced CMOS devices. He is currently associated with Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT, Warsaw University of Technology and also with the Center for Terahertz Research and Applications (CENTERA) at the Institute of High-Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences. His research interests include physics and modeling of semiconductor devices with emphasis on problems related to quantum-mechanical phenomena as well as solid-state technology.
